WATERTOWN, S.D.–South Dakota Senate President Lee Schoenbeck of Watertown has a primary challenger next month.

Watertown City Councilman Colin Paulsen will face Schoenbeck on June 7th.

The two met at a candidate forum Tuesday night at the Watertown Event Center.

Schoenbeck was asked about the, “dysfunction” of the recently completely legislative session.

He said the dysfunction was in the House, not in his chamber…

Paulsen was asked about his thoughts on eminent domain, as landowners in northeast South Dakota have faced an increasing number of wind turbine projects and potentially, a carbon dioxide pipeline running through Codington County…

No Democrat filed to run in Senate District 5, so the primary race next month will determine who wins the seat.
