Schmidt scores game winning run on a wild pitch in game two as Watertown sweeps Brookings

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Watertown Post 17 would get two big wins over region opponent Brookings Wednesday night at Watertown Stadium.

Game one would be a 3-2 final.  Mason Evans would lead the charge with one hit and one RBI.  Mason Morris would also contribute and RBI.  Jerod Cyrus, Jayden Cordell and Mason Lloyd would each have one hit in the game.  Kale Stevenson would pitch six innings on the hill, throwing 94 pitches, three hits, one run, eight strikeouts and four walks.   Jerod Cyrus would come in to close the game to earn his seventh save of the season.

Game two would swing the way of Brookings.  Watertown was down 8-0 going into the bottom of the second inning but Zach Hirsch would have something to say about that:

That would get the rally started for Post 17 as they would score three in the second and five in the third including an Easton Thury three RBI double:

Watertown would take the lead 9-8 in the fourth but Brookings would battle back and send two across the plate in the fifth inning to take the lead back 10-9. Post 17 would battle back and tie the game at 10 in the bottom of the sixth. It would all come down to the seventh for the purple and gold as Dawson Schmidt would score from second base on the wild pitch. ending the game with an 11-10 victory.

Easton Thury would lead the charge for Watertown in game two with two hits and three RBI’s Zach Hirsch would tally one hit and three RBI’s. Mason Morris would start the game on the mound and last one inning after giving up five runs. Jayden Cordell would see an inning in relief, Dawson Schmidt would throw three out of the pen and Jerod Cyrus would pitch the final two innings.

Watertown Post 17 (24-10) heads to Aberdeen on Friday for two in a row at 5 and 7 p.m.
