Recent wind storm has Watertown landfill providing free residential dumping of trees, branches

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Due to the recent wind storm, the Watertown Regional Landfill will provide free residential dumping of trees and tree branches for city of Watertown residents at the landfill through Saturday, August 1, 2020.

Residents may take loads of branches to the Landfill during the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Landfill is closed on Sunday. These secured loads will be accepted free of charge with a current Municipal Utility bill at the Landfill.

Entering the Landfill with an unsecured load will result in a charge of twice the normal tipping fee. Only trees and branches (no other materials) will be accepted free of charge.

Free disposal privileges are for Watertown residents only. Commercial or contractor loads will be charged the appropriate tipping fee for the incoming load. People without a current Watertown Municipal Utility bill will be charged the appropriate tipping fee for the incoming loads at the landfill.

Watertown recorded a peak wind gust of 75 mph as a severe thunderstorm moved through the city early Saturday morning.
