Progress on new Watertown Ice Arena remains slow (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.–The issue of building a new ice arena in Watertown came up at Monday night’s city council meeting.

One project that jumped ahead of the ice rink is a new Watertown City Hall.

The city is buying the Wells Fargo bank building downtown for $1.3 million, and will occupy it as the new City Hall staring in 2021.

Meanwhile, progress on a new ice arena remains slow.

Mayor Sarah Caron says estimates show a new two sheet ice arena could cost $17 million or more, and the city has not had funding secured to get construction started.
