Private family memorial planned for former U.S. Senator James Abourezk

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–The family of former South Dakota U.S. Senator James Abourezk is planning a private memorial for the late Senator.
He passed away in Sioux Falls on Friday, on his 92nd birthday.
Abourezk served one term each in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate in the 1970’s, where he focused on issues affecting farmers, consumers and Native Americans.
He grew up on the Rosebud Indian Reservation and will be buried at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
