PREVIEW: State Boys Varsity Hockey Tournament

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — The 2022 South Dakota Varsity State Hockey Tournament begins today in Sioux Falls.

The Watertown Lakers come into the tournament with a 12-13 record. Watertown Coach Evan Witt says despite an up and down season, the boys took that next step in the program:

Hockey across South Dakota has seen an enhancement of play in the past years. Coach Witt credits that with the style of play that has been seen across the state:

That development of play has led to a state tournament bracket this year that features undefeated Rushmore and defending state champion Brookings who has one loss and one tie on the season. Coach Witt says there is no team in the tournament you can look past:

Watertown will try to be that sleeper team as they open with top-seeded Rushmore who has two wins over the Lakers this season. Coach Witt says he likes the draw:
