WATERTOWN, S.D.–Construction work on Highway 212 in Watertown has not started yet, but prep work on the detour route continues.

South Dakota Department of Transportation Engineer Bryce Olson says asphalt work on the detour will take place this week, including patchwork on 4th Avenue Southeast between 11th Street and Highway 81.

The detour setup and signing along the detour route is continuing.

Surface removal on Highway 212 and under-the-roadway utility work will get started soon.

A new five lane Highway on 212 will be built between Highway 81 and 19th Street East this summer. Construction crews will also build sidewalks on both sides of the highway, and install new traffic signal lights and street lighting.

The $13 million project is scheduled for completion in late October.
