WATERTOWN, S.D.–A major winter storm will impact South Dakota and the region for most of the work week, begining today.

National Weather Service forecaster Mike Connolly tells KWAT News  there are Winter Storm Watches, Winter Storm Warnings, Winter Weather Advisories and Ice Storm Warnings posted for various parts of South Dakota.

The storm begins today, with precipitation falling as freezing rain, which could make travel difficult.

By Tuesday, the freezing rain changes to snow…

Snowfall amounts will be difficult to pin down, but there’ll be enough to shovel…

There’ll be a lot of wind too….

After the storm pushes out on Thursday, some very cold air moves in…

For the immediate Watertown area, snowfall amounts of 5 to 8 inches are forecast. That’ll be preceded by freezing rain.
