Post 17 falls in pair of one run games

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Watertown Post 17 would fall to Sioux Falls Post 15 West on a pair of one-run games on Thursday.

Sioux Falls West would send one run past the plate in the first inning of game one.  The game would then turn into a pitchers dual:

Stevenson would throw six and two-thirds innings on 105 pitches, three hits, one run, issued two walks, and fanned 16. West’s Camden Gadbois would go six innings, throwing 105 pitches for five hits, walked five, and strike out eight.   Zach Hirsch, Andrew Czech, Dawson Schmidt, Jerod Cyrus, and Ben Althoff each would drop down one hit for Watertown.

Sioux Falls would put up a seven-spot in the second inning of game two but Watertown would come back putting up three in the fifth and two in the sixth.  Tied at 7 going into the seventh inning, Sioux Falls Graham Sanders would put his team ahead:

That run would be the game two final, 8-7.  Dawson Schmidt would lead Post 17 at the plate with two hits and three RBI’s.  Jerod Cyrus would struggle on the mounds, being pulled after an inning and a third.  Joe Wilber would pitch four and a third in relief, throwing 74 pitches, walking three, and fanning three.  Schmidt would finish the game on the hill throwing 30 pitches, allowing one run, walking three, and striking out three.

It’s a busy weekend for the Watertown Baseball Association as the 2021 Slugfest Scramble Golf Tournament will be held at Cattail Crossing on Friday.  46 teams will be in Watertown for the 2021 Coke Tournament being held this weekend at Watertown Stadium, Foundation Fields, and the Koch Complex.
