Portion of North Dakota grain elevator destroyed by fire

EDGELEY, N.D. (KFGO) – Fire destroyed part of the grain elevator in Edgeley Friday night.

“The elevator was built in different stages over the years, and the wood structure is completely gone,” Fire Chief Steve Powers said. “The cement structure that was added on is all still standing.”

Powers says they don’t know what started the fire.

The call came in around 6:30 p.m., and crews from Edgeley, Kulm, and LaMoure battled the blaze until around 2 a.m. Saturday.

“The fire is still smoldering,” Powers said. “It’s under control. It’ll probably be under control for quite some time. A lot of grain was in that wood structure”

Powers said he is thankful there were no injuries and for the help his crew got from neighboring departments.

“It was a bad fire, but nobody got hurt,” Powers said. “Structures can be rebuilt. No other property was damaged. I think the Edgeley, Kulm, and LaMoure fire departments did an outstanding job and we’ll move on from here.”

The state fire marshal has been contacted and will investigate the fire.

Edgeley is about 40 miles south of Jamestown.
