PINE RIDGE SD — A human-caused fire on the Pine Ridge Reservation is reportedly at 100-percent containment, after a day that saw the fire area balloon from 200 to just short of 1.600 acres in size.
The Wilson Road fire was reported Tuesday afternoon, and is believed to be caused by fireworks usage, in a timber area six miles north of Pine Ridge. Hot and windy conditions caused the fire to grow out of its initial containment areas Wednesday, and the hundred-or-so crew members working the fire got it fully contained at 1,575 acres as of last night.
Officials say that no homes or other structures were lost. Crews will continue mop-up operations inside the fire area today.
