WATERTOWN, S.D.–A 66 year-old man sustained life threatening injuries early Saturday morning in a car-pedestrian accident in Codington County.

South Dakota Public Safety Department spokesman Tony Mangan says it happened at 12:03 a.m. on 450th Avenue, ten miles northwest of Watertown.

A Chevy Malibu was southbound on 450th Avenue when the 43 year-old female driver approached an area where two vehicles were parked on the side of the road.

The pedestrian appeared in front of her vehicle and she could not stop in time.

The pedestrian was taken via ambulance to Prairie Lakes Hospital and later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved.

They say no charges are pending.
