Overnight sees severe weather in the area

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Overnight saw a round of severe weather with severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings.

Strong winds were reported near Estelline where a 67 MPH wind gust was reported at 2:13 a.m. Near Stone Bridge in Hamlin County, a 61 MPH wind gust was reported at 1:55 a.m.  Hamlin County Emergency Management reports a roof was blown off the bus barn, damage to a daycare roof and additional tree damage in Hayti.  Two-foot diameter trees were reported down and structural damage was reported to an agricultural business building and storage grain silos in Redfield. The most severe wind gust from the line of storms was reported near Hayes in Stanley County where a 104 MPH wind gust was recorded at 11 p.m.

Heavy rain was noted by our listeners,  3 inches north of Crocker, 1 inch north of Butler, 2.9 north of Huron, and 1.13 in Sisseton.  Lesser amounts reported around Watertown, 4.5 near Mellette School, .50 in central Watertown, .65 north of Watertown.  Watertown Regional Airport reported .32.
