North Dakota police officer killed in the line of duty

GRAND FORKS, N.D.– A Grand Forks Police Officer has died after being shot during an Wednesday afternoon altercation.

Deputies with the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve eviction paperwork to Salamah Q. Pendleton, a 41 year old resident of Grand Forks. During contact with the officers, Pendleton initiated gunfire.

The deputies called for emergency assistance and officers from multiple agencies, including the Grand Forks Police Department, responded.

Two Grand Forks Sheriff’s Deputies, two Grand Forks Police Officers, Pendleton, and a unidentified female, were in the apartment. Pendleton received gunfire injuries and was transported and is being treated at Altru Hospital.

The female received fatal gunfire injuries. A deputy received non-life-threatening gunfire injuries, and is in stable condition at Altru. A Grand Forks Police Officer received gunfire injuries and did not survive.
