NEW: Watertown Police Department issues annual report

WATERTOWN, S.D.–2023 was another busy year for officers with the Watertown Police Department.

According to their annual report released Monday, officers responded to 24,543 calls for service last year, which was a six-percent increase over the previous year.

There were 641 traffic accidents, which was down two-percent from 2022.

Watertown police did not investigate a single murder last year. However, aggravated assault arrests grew by a whopping 57 percent. There were 44 of them last year, compared to just 28 in 2022.

Theft investigations, which include shoplifting, also saw a large increase. There were 381 of them in 2023, which was up 27-percent from the year before.
