WATERTOWN, S.D.—A local businessman has revealed his plans to purchase and redevelop the former Shopko location near the intersection of Highways 81 and 212 in Watertown.

Brian Brandreit tells KWAT News Director Mike Tanner he’s had his eye on the building for years….

He says his plans call for the “front” of the redeveloped property to face Highway 212….

He says the high traffic location this property provides makes it a perfect fit for redevelopment….

The Shopko building has been sitting empty since the summer of 2019, but Brandreit says it’s in good shape….

He says starting with a clean slate leaves the possibilities for the property wide open…

As for the timeline on all of this….

Brandreit would not disclose the sale price, but says he’s, “happy with where I’m at.”
