WATERTOWN, S.D.–The two primary user groups that would utilize a new two-sheet ice arena in Watertown are pledging financial support for the project.

Eric Skott is the president of the Watertown Hockey Association, and spoke at Tuesday night’s Watertown Council meeting…..

Marcy Kohl is the president of the Watertown Figure Skate Club…

Ice Arena Committee Chairman Ried Holien says he’s already got an interested tenant looking for ice time in Watertown…..

But right now, there’s no room for another hockey team in the city….

City Council President Adam Lalim says a new arena would not be just for hockey players and figure skaters. He says a two sheet ice facility could be much more than that…

Mayor Sarah Caron called the pledges made by the Hockey Association and the Figure Skate Club wonderful news, and exactly what the community has been waiting for.

The ice arena topic was for discussion purposes only. No action was taken, so the project remains, for the time being, a “wish list” item for many in the community.
