NEW: South Dakota’s death toll from COVID-19 virus climbs over 1,000 mark

PIERRE, S.D.–South Dakota has surpassed the 1,000 mark in coronavirus-related deaths.

The State Health Department reported 38 additional deaths in their daily update today (Thursday), pushing the cumulative total to 1,033.

There were two additional deaths in Codington County, raising the total there to 53. That ties Codington County with Lincoln County for the second-most COVID-19 related deaths in the state, trailing only Minnehaha County’s 195. 

Active cases statewide are at 15,474. Hospitalizations are at 538.

Codington County’s active case count is at 514.
