WATERTOWN, S.D.–A semi driver escaped serious injuries Thursday night when he rolled the cattle truck he was driving 10 miles northeast of Watertown.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says it happened at 7:45 p.m.

The 30 year-old semi driver from Clark was westbound on 164th Street near 451st Avenue. As he was approaching a left hand curve in the road, he got too close to the shoulder.

The cab and trailer both rolled into the ditch, coming to rest on their roofs.

An unknown number of cattle were killed in the crash. There were others that got away.

Highway Patrol spokesman Tony Mangan says the semi driver was not wearing a seat belt, and charges against him are pending.
