BISMARCK, N.D.–A man is dead after being shot by members of the West Dakota SWAT team during an incident in Bismarck last night.

Bismarck Police Lieutenant Luke Gardiner says a 911 call came in from a neighbor in the 100 block of River Road, who reported hammering and sawing noises. The neighbor said the man talked about having a bomb.

Earlier in the evening, there were two other calls – one was a welfare check, where the man made claims of having weapons, and using them if anyone came into his place illegally. A second call came from a delivery worker, who reported the man had a handgun – and claimed to have other weapons.

Gardiner says the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation will handle the matter from here.

The man’s name has not been released until relatives are notified.
