WATERTOWN, S.D.–Groundbreaking ceremonies were held today (Wednesday) on a massive development project in Watertown.

Harmony Hill is described as a legacy project of the Sisters of Mother of God Monastery.

Spread out over nearly 500 acres, Harmony Hill will include walking and biking trails, expansive parks, gardens, and residential opportunities from apartments to condominiums, and twin homes to single-family residences.

KWAT News was at today’s groundbreaking, and spoke with Sister Barb Younger about the project, and the legacy they’re leaving…

With the developement of this project comes a lot of responsibility….

Watertown Mayor Ried Holien spoke at the groundbreaking. He’s a big supporter of Harmony Hill…

The first phase of the build-out will be a residential neighborhood known as the Village at Harmony Hill, scheduled for completion in early 2023.

The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society is partnering with the sisters on the project.

Due to rain, the groundbreaking was held indoors, with dignitaries improvising by using gold-plated shovels to turn dirt that was filled in five gallon pails.
