WATERTOWN, S.D.–KWAT News has learned the former Shopko property in Watertown will now be known as, “Crossings Plaza,” and events will soon be held in the building that has been vacant for nearly two years.

Developer Brian Brandriet tells News Director Mike Tanner a concert featuring the rock band Saving Abel will be held in the south end of the building on February 20th. There will be a temporary stage set up along with a VIP area, and liquor will be served.  Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased at Shooter’s. Shades of Air will be the opening act.

In mid-April, there will be pool and dart tournaments held simultaneously….

Brandriet says he has one space leased out on the northeast corner of the building. He would not identify the tenant that will occupy just over 3,000 square feet. He expects that store will open in the spring.

He’s working on filling other space with several smaller storefronts on the north end of the building, that will face Highway 212…

Brandriet had hoped to fill a big chunk of the west end of the building with a new restaurant, but he says the climate isn’t very good for that opportunity right now…

Brandriet remains optimistic that eventually, he’ll attract a number of new stores and get the building filled to capacity…

Brandriet purchased the property a year ago when the Shopko chain went out of business.
