NEW: Construction work on Watertown’s new City Hall begins (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.–The first visible signs of construction at the future home of Watertown’s new City Hall are evident today.

A construction fence now rings the perimeter of the former Wells Fargo Bank building in downtown Watertown.

Crews from Huff Construction in Aberdeen will renovate the interior of the building. They’ll also build an addition that will include a city council chambers, and enclose what is now the teller drive-up area into an enclosed, heated garage for city vehicles.

Councilman Randy Tupper says this project is a long time coming….

The city bought the building for $1.3 million. Huff Construction’s bid for the renovation and expansion came in at just under $4.2million.

The scheduled completion date of the project is May 1, 2025.
