WATERTOWN, S.D.–Bids have been opened for next summer’s second phase of U.S. Highway 212 construction work in Watertown.

South Dakota Department of Transportation (DOT) Engineer Bryce Olson says three bids were opened last week. The low bid of $13.75 million was submitted by J & J Earthworks of Milbank.

Other bids were submitted by Reede Construction of Aberdeen ($14.25 million) and BX Civil and Construction of Dell Rapids ($14.4 million).

Phase two construction will begin next summer on Highway 212 between Highway 81 and 19th Street. It includes a complete re-build of the highway, along with new curb and gutter, sidewalks, lighting and traffic signals.

Olson says the DOT will officially award the bid at their December 16th meeting.
