WATERTOWN, S.D.–After serving 12 years on the Codington County Board of Commissioners, Brenda Hanten tells KWAT News she’s filed to run for Codington County Auditor…

Hanten, a Republican, has been the county board chairwoman representing District 5 for the past two terms.

Her public service experience also includes seven years spent working in the Register of Deeds office in Deuel County.

No Democrat filed to run for auditor prior to Tuesday’s filing deadline.

Independent Party candidates have until April 26th to file.

The current Codington County Auditor, Cindy Brugman, is retiring at the end of her current term. She’s been employed by the office since 1977. 

Republican Randall Schweer has filed for Hanten’s job on the county commission.
