NEW: Child struck and injured outside Watertown’s Mellette School

WATERTOWN, S.D.–A seven year-old girl was injured this morning when she was struck while walking outside a Watertown Elementary School.
Police Sergeant Matt Hegg says it happened at 7:53 this morning.
A woman driving a small SUV had dropped her child off at Mellette Elementary in the 600-block of 2nd Street West, and was driving away when the seven year-old pedestrian was hit.
Hegg says that child’s father was walking with her, and took her to the hospital before police arrived.
The girl sustained scrapes and bruises, and was treated and released the from hospital.
Hegg says the driver of the SUV will be cited for Carless Driving.
