BROOKINGS, S.D.–A scary pair of incidents in Brookings County Tuesday night.

They began just before 7 p.m. at the HandiMart gas station in Arlington. That’s where a man and woman used a rifle to threaten a victim and steal their vehicle.

They fled at a high rate of speed in that stolen vehicle to Volga, where the pair attempted to steal another vehicle at the Casey’s store on U.S. Highway 14.

They punched a customer in the face at Casey’s. The customer fought back, and the pair fled in the first vehicle they’d stolen in Arlington.

The vehicle continued fleeing eastbound on Highway 14 where it eventually stopped in the lane of traffic and was ditched by the suspects.

The victim in the Volga assault described the suspects as a man, about 6’1″ to 6’3″ tall with a muscular build, wearing a dark gray sweatshirt and black stocking cap.

The female suspect was described as 5’8″ tall with a heavy build, and wearing a white sweatshirt and ball cap.

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department, Moody County Sheriff’s Department, Brookings Police, and South Dakota Highway Patrol conducted an extensive search of the area using drones with thermal imaging cameras, but they were unable to find the suspects.
