ORTONVILLE, Minn.–The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) along with the Big Stone County Sheriff’s Office and Ortonville Police Department are investigating the discovery of a deceased male near the Minnesota River dam in Ortonville.

Big Stone County Sheriff Mark Brown and Ortonville Police Chief Jason Mork say in a news release that the body was discovered shortly before noon Thursday.

The body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in St. Paul where an autopsy will be conducted to determine a cause of death.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Authorities are asking the public to stay away from areas law enforcement has closed off as they continue to investigate.

It’s expected that the area of the dam where the body was located will remain closed to the public until late this (Friday) afternoon.

Authorities say they do not believe the general public is in any danger as it relates to this investigation.
