WATERTOWN, S.D.–Athletic facilities at Watertown High School are in a transition phase toward a decidely new and more modern look.

Already, the track at Allen Mitchell Field has been completely rebuilt, and a new artificial turf football and soccer field has been installed inside the track.

This week, the school board approved the next phase of improvements there.

The base bid went to Hasslen Construction of Ortonville, Minnesota for just under $10.4 million.

School Superintendent Jeff Danielsen on how it’ll be paid for…

Phase two will include home team bleachers, locker rooms, restroooms, lighting and concession areas at Allen Mitchell Field.

Danielsen says one reason this project is moving forward is because Watertown’s facilities, when compared to their peers, needed to do some catching up…..

Phase two construction will start in April, and be finished in July of 2025.
