WATERTOWN, S.D.–As wind farms and all the moving parts associated with large turbines begin to age, investor-owned utilities and rural electric cooperatives are exploring new ways to keep them useful and operational.
Chris Nelson is on the three member South Dakota Public Utilities Commission (PUC)…..
But for some wind farms, their life will expire, which means there’s a decommissioning process, where the wind farm is taken off line and is no longer functional.
Nelson says the PUC has been addressing that through the permitting process….
