National average price of gasoline approaching $5.00 a gallon

UNDATED–Current gasoline prices in the United States paint an ugly picture for travelers and commuters.
AAA Auto Club reports the average national price for a gallon of unleaded today is $4.91 a gallon, the highest its ever been.
Diesel fuel prices have also never been higher. They’re at $5.68 a gallon nationally.
Prices in South Dakota are slightly lower, but still at all-time highs. A gallon of unleaded in South Dakota averages $4.61 a gallon. Diesel fuel in the state averages $5.26 a gallon.
One year ago at this time, the national average for unleaded was $3.05 a gallon. In South Dakota, the average was $2.90 a gallon.
