WATERTOWN, S.D.–The nation woke up to the highest gas prices in history this morning……$4.17 a gallon on average.

That’s putting a world of hurt on the budgets of individuals who live a paycheck-to-paycheck existence.

But’s its also affecting municipalities too.

In Watertown’s case, everything from police squad cars, to fire trucks, ambulances, snow plows and sanding trucks all need fuel.

City Manager Amanda Mack (pictured) talked with KWAT News about trying to anticipate record-high fuel prices…….

One thing municipalities like Watertown can do is pre-purchase their fuel at a locked in price….

Most Watertown gas stations are priced at $3.89 a gallon today for regular unleaded.

Energy analysts say prices are expected to continue to climb.
