Motorcyclist run over after striking deer is identified

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – A 50-year-old Hot Springs woman has been identified as the person who died Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash 12 miles northeast of Hot Springs.

Deanna Elmquist was riding a motorcycle southbound on South Dakota Highway 79 when the motorcycle struck a deer that had run onto the roadway.

Elmquist was thrown from the motorcycle into the southbound driving lane. She was then struck by a southbound vehicle which could not avoid hitting her.

The Gillette, Wyoming man driving the vehicle was not injured.
