Monday’s heat and humidity leads to severe storms across northeast South Dakota  (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Monday’s heat and humidity spawned severe weather across northeast South Dakota last night.

Several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Tornado Warnings were posted.

National Weather Service forecaster Amy Parkin says most of the reports were of damaging straight-line winds…

Parkin says there were reports of tornadoes last night..

Weather spotters confirmed a tornado near the Kellerton Church east of Vienna just after 10 p,m. That prompted a Tornado Warning to be issued for parts of Hamlin and Codington counties.

Parkin says there were many reports of small branches being snapped off in high winds.

One inch hail was reported seven miles southeast of Webster, and Pierre reported 79 miles per hour winds that damaged trees and power lines, and also caused some roof damage to buildings.
