Mitchell School District hires new superintendent

MITCHELL, S.D.–Mitchell High School Principal Joe Childs has moved up in the ranks. The Mitchell School Board named him Superintendent of Schools Tuesday.
He started in 2006 as an English teacher in the Mitchell Middle School.
Childs became Middle School assistant principal, then moved to Longfellow Elementary as principal and has served as High School Principal for nearly 10 years, and now Superintendent.
He replaces Dr. Joe Graves who became South Dakota Secretary of Education earlier this year.
Childs verbally accepted a two-year contract with a starting salary of $175,000 for the first year.
