PIERRE, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — The mercy rule will find its way into the large classes of South Dakota high school football this fall.
At their April meeting of the Board of Directors of the South Dakota High School Activities Association voted to adopt the running-clock rule for contests among the 11AAA and 11AA classes.
Assistant Executive Director of the South Dakota High School Activities Association John Krogstrand talks about the evolution of the mercy rule:
The rule will take effect in a game where the lead is 35 points or greater after halftime. A running clock would be used for the remainder of the game. The rule includes the regular and postseason games.
