Meeting today will include more discussion on snow gate use in Watertown
December 2, 2019
WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council will discuss further the use of snow gates this winter when they hold their Public Works Committee meeting at 4 p.m. today (Monday).
The gates have been used for the past several winters by the Street Department and are designed to prevent a ridge of snow from piling up at the end of driveways when a plow comes by.
Street Superintendent Rob Beynon says they aren’t effective in snow depths greater than five inches, and they slow down the time it takes to plow out the city.
Some city council members are wondering whether it’s better to stop using them altogether this winter.
