MBB: Mayo, Scheierman Lead SDSU Past USD

BROOKINGS, S.D. (GoYotes.com & GoJacks.com) — Zeke Mayo and Baylor Scheierman’s hot shooting helped lead South Dakota State to a dominant 84-65 conference victory over South Dakota Saturday night in Brookings.

Mayo led the Jackrabbits with a career high 21 points, making a career high five 3-pointers while shooting 70% from the field. He also grabbed five rebounds and maintained his perfection from the free throw line, making each of his two shot attempts.

Scheierman had a perfect night of shooting enroute to his 19 points, making 8-of-8 shots from the field and 3-of-3 shots from behind the arc. Scheierman also added in seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Luke Appel and Douglas Wilson also finished in double figures, scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Mason Archambault scored 16 points to lead four South Dakota players in double figures. Big man Hunter Goodrick tied his career-high of 15 points. Boogie Anderson and Kruz Perrott-Hunt added 10 points each. The Coyotes were down a starter and a key bench player and played with a seven-person rotation.

SDSU will hit the road to face Omaha at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13 in double header action.  South Dakota will stay on the road to face North Dakota Monday in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It’s a make-up game from Dec. 30 when the contest was postponed due to COVID-19.
