WATERTOWN, S.D.—Watertown is looking at adding a stormwater utility fee on homeowners and businesses as a way to generate more revenue in the years ahead.

Mayor Sarah Caron discussed it this morning on KWAT’s What’s Up.

She says it would help cover the cost of maintaining Watertown’s storm sewer system…

We asked the mayor what the bottom-line cost of this fee will be for a typical Watertown homeowner…

The fee could go on the books as early as next year…

Caron says the stormwater utility fee could be added onto a person’s monthly utility bill, or tacked on to your annual property tax bill.

The fee could generate up to $1.5 million for the city annually.
