Man lays in ditch for several hours in freezing temperatures after rolling vehicle

LISBON, N.D. (KFGO) – A North Dakota man was seriously hurt in a rollover on a highway in southeastern North Dakota’s Ransom County.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 25-year-old Jesse Schultz of Enderlin lost control of his car about a mile north of Sheldon at around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Schultz was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the rollover. It’s believed Schultz laid in the ditch for about three hours until he was found. The temperature was estimated at -22.

He was first taken to the hospital in Lisbon and then to Essentia Health in Fargo. In addition to the injuries from the crash, Schultz was suffering from exposure to the cold.

He faces a charge of drunken driving.
