ESTELLINE, S.D.–One person has died in a crash between a semi and a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) north of Estelline.

The Highway Patrol says both vehicles were northbound on 465th Avenue, a half mile north of Estelline.

The loaded semi truck and trailer entered the southbound lane to pass the UTV, when the UTV moved into the southbound lane.

The semi attempted to avoid the crash by swerving into the west ditch, but it struck the left front corner of the UTV.

The 52 year-old man driving the UTV was thrown from the vehicle and later died from his injuries at Prairie Lakes Hospital.

The 79 year-old man driving the semi was not injured.

No names have been released.

A separate two vehicle crash in South Dakota’s Meade County has killed a 26 year-old man.

It happened five miles west of Union Center when a car crossed the centerline of Highway 34 and into the path of a semi pulling an empty gravel trailer.
