Man killed after crashing SUV into Big Sioux River

BROOKINGS, S.D.–A 56-year-old man died Friday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 in Moody County, seven miles south of Brookings.

The Highway Patrol says the driver of an SUV was traveling north on Interstate 29 when the vehicle left the road, entering the center median where it crashed before coming to a stop in the Big Sioux River.

Law enforcement and bystanders on-scene pulled the driver from the vehicle to a nearby sand bar, where emergency medical technicicans declared the driver deceased.

His name has not been released yet.
