SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–Sioux Falls Police say a man who threatened police officers with a knife Thursday ended up being shot by one of the officers.

Police were assisting deputies with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office at a building on West Cayman Street. The man they were looking for confronted the officers and threatened them with a knife.

Police used less-lethal munitions to attempt to stop the suspect but were unsuccessful and resorted to firing a gun to stop the threat.

The suspect was given first aid on the scene and taken to a hospital. There were no other injuries reported.

Sioux Falls Police Chief Jon Thum requested the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation to investigate this officer-involved shooting.

The Attorney General’s Office announced shortly after that they would be reviewing the incident.
