Man dies when pickups collide near Wessington

WESSINGTON, S.D.–The South Dakota Highway Patrol says one man is dead and another injured after two pickup trucks collided in Hand County Sunday night.

It happened three miles west of Wessington just before midnight.

One pickup was westbound on U.S. Highway 14 when the driver lost control on the ice and slid into the path of an oncoming pickup.

A 24 year-old man driving one of the pickups was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver of the second pickup, a 26 year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries and is being treated at a Sioux Falls hospital.

The names of the men have not been released.
