LENNOX, S.D.– The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls confirmed that widespread storm damage in Lennox was due to strong straight-line winds and a brief EF-1 tornado touchdown.

Lincoln County emergency manager, Harold Timmerman, says there was major tree damage in Lennox and the roof on the high school was damaged in the Saturday night storm.

The City of Lennox was telling people to stay off the streets if they are not helping with cleanup efforts.

The Lennox School District has canceled classes on Monday due to the storm damage.

Xcel Energy trucks are in the area working to restore power. As of late Sunday, over 2000 customers from Chancellor, Lennox, Worthing, and Canton were without electricity from the downed power lines.

Lennox is 20 miles south of Sioux Falls.
