Leadership positions announced in South Dakota Legislature

PIERRE, S.D.–The newly-elected South Dakota House Republicans met in caucus Friday to elect majority leadership positions for the 2025-2026 legislative term.
House Republicans elected Jon Hansen of Dell Rapids as Speaker of the House and Scott Odenbach of Spearfish as Majority Leader.
Jim Melhaaf of Pierre is the Senate Majority Leader.
On the Democrat side, Erin Healy of Sioux Falls will be Minority Leader, and Liz Larson of Sioux Falls will be Senate Minority Leader.
Republicans hold 95 of the 105 seats in the Legislature.
The 2025 session opens at noon January 14th with Governor Kristi Noem’s State of the State address.
