Laundry list of items on SDHSAA April meeting

PIERRE, S.D. ( — The SDHSAA annual meeting and monthly meeting will be held today.

The monthly meeting will see a laundry list of items including the first reading on proposed changes to the SDHSAA Athletics Handbook, proposed changes from the Sports Officials Advisory Council, and the Sports Medicine Advisory Council.

Some of the proposed changes include a mercy rule in Class AA basketball, seed point changes for out of state opponents for basketball and volleyball, a change in the wording on the Coaching on Course rule for all classes of golf, state tournament time schedule rotation for soccer, and a change in the match format of the tennis state tournaments.

The board will so conduct a first reading related to Site Selection Committee recommendations on state tournament sites for 2025-26, board will also consider state tournament rotations for 2023 and beyond for the sports of Cheer and Dance and Cross Country, this includes bringing State Cheer & Dance to Watertown in 2025, and state tournament rotations for 2023 and beyond for the sports of wrestling, and Class A and AA girls basketball.

A second reading will also be conducted to adopt alignments in all athletic activities effective this upcoming season and the 2023-24 school years.

The board will also hear requests for a cooperative sponsorship of activities from Arlington and Lake Preston-Iroquois co-op in the sport of competitive cheer beginning in 2022-23 and a request from Wilmot to participate in boys and girls golf beginning in the 2021-22 school year.

The board will meet at 11 a.m. today at the SDHSAA office in Pierre.
