Lakers season sends with two losses at state

ABERDEEN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) – Watertown Laker girls hockey would open the state tournament on Friday with a 6-3 loss to rival Brookings.

Senior Jaclyn Lloyd with the hat trick for the yellow and black. Rachel Skott and Janel Lloyd each notched the assist. Angelyn Birnell stopped 33 of 39 shots on goal. The Rangers would outshoot the Lakers 39-24.

That would drop Watertown to the win or go home game against Rushmore on Saturday. Despite outshooting Rushmore 32-22, the Lakers could only muster one goal by Jillian Busch in a 4-1 loss. Birnell stopped 18 of 21 shots on goal.

Watertown ends their year with a record of 11-13 and will graduate five seniors, Cate Holien, Emma Foisel, Katie Birnell, Jillian Busch and Jaclyn Lloyd.
