Lake Area Tech will hold “virtual graduation ceremony” May 8th

April 15, 2020

WATERTOWN – Officials at Lake Area Technical College announced today the 2020 graduation ceremony will take place virtually on Friday, May 8th, 2020. The decision follows Governor Kristi Noem’s Executive Order to close school facilities through the end of the spring semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Commencement page is being developed on the Lake Area Tech website at https://www.lakeareatech.edu/. The page will go live May 8th.

Graduates, their families, and all friends of Lake Area Tech are invited to navigate the page and celebrate with the graduates online.

Lake Area Tech President Mike Cartney said it is important to celebrate this momentous accomplishment with our graduates. “College graduation is most likely our graduates’ greatest achievement thus far in their lives, and we will honor and recognize their accomplishments through a virtual graduation,” he said. “Everyone at Lake Area Tech understands and shares the disappointment of not having a traditional on-campus ceremony. We are doing everything possible to protect our students and our community during this pandemic, but we agree it’s important to continue with tradition and celebrate the Lake Area Tech Class of 2020.”

Prior to the online ceremony, Lake Area Tech graduates will be mailed a “Commencement in a Crate” that will include special graduation artifacts celebrating their day.
