Watertown, S.D.–KWAT News will spend the next two weeks interviewing city council and mayoral candidates in Watertown.

Today, council candidates Glen Vilhauer (Ward E) and Dan Schutte (Ward C) stopped by.

Vilhauer was asked about the council’s decision to buy the Wells Fargo Bank building downtown for $1.3 million, with the purpose of reonvating it into a new City Hall.

Vilhauer supported the purchase, but believes the city dropped the ball in sharing information on how much the renovation costs will be….

Vilhauer says the city always has met the criteria for meeting in executive session, or in other words, behind closed doors…

But he believes there needs to be better communication about the reasons why an executive session is required…

Vilhauer is unopposed for a two year term in Ward E.

Schutte founded Access Ministries in Watertown following a long career with Diamond Vogel Paints. He wants to see Watertown grow, and deepen its available workforce..

Schutte is running against Michael Heuer in Ward C.

Election Day is June 15th.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), we hear from Ward A council candidate Michael Danforth.
